Oaklands Global have been retained by our Business Aviation client in the UK to conduct a Search for a Director of Flight Operations.

The Director of Flight Operations (DFO) is the Nominated Person (Post Holder) responsible for Flight Operations, and as such is subject to approval by the Competent Authority prior to appointment.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Practical experience and expertise in the application of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, requirements and procedures; the AOC holder’s operations; plus the need for, and content of, the operations manual.
  • Familiarity with management systems.
  • Appropriate management experience, preferably in a comparable organisation.
  • Relevant work experience of which at least two years should be an appropriate aviation

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the oversight and monitoring of the Company Flight Operations.
  • Liaison with the Competent Authority on all Operational matters and ensuring that the company Operations are in compliance with current legislation and the terms of the AOC.
  • The safety and standards of all Company Flight Operations in liaison with the Company Head of Training and Standards.
  • Determining, in conjunction with the Safety Manager and Flight Safety Officer, the Company’s policy in relation to its Safety Management System.
  • Liaison and co-ordination with the Ground Operations Manager.
  • General supervision of the Operations Department.
  • Oversee content of the Operations Manual and amending all parts as required.
  • Supervision and approval of all Notices to Aircrew (NTAs).
  • Supervision and approval of all airfield Categorisation and airfield Briefings. The Head of Training and Standards, the Technical Pilot and Flight Safety Officer may compose Airfield Briefings for approval by the Flight Operations Director.
  • Participate in Safety Action Group (SAG) meetings to assess hazards, identify/ implement risk mitigation as required and support the SAG in decision making regarding acceptable levels of risk.
  • Support the Accountable Manager by attending Safety Review Board meetings to monitor the safety performance of the Company and to implement improvement actions as required.

Additional Information

  • Approximately 20% flying, 80% office based
  • Business Aviation types preferable
  • EASA ATPL required
  • Monday to Friday working pattern
